Reliance Jio is reportedly partnering with HP, Acer, and Lenovo to develop a new ‘cloud’ laptop that will provide users with access to powerful hardware and storage at an affordable price in India. This move comes after the company successfully launched two affordable laptops in India, including the JioBook.
According to a report Economic Times, Jio aims to reduce the ownership cost of laptops in India introducing a ‘cloud’ laptop. The company is already in talks with prominent manufacturers to bring this innovative product to the market.
The ‘cloud’ laptop, also known as a “dumb terminal,” will allow users to connect with Jio’s cloud for processing and storage, eliminating the need for expensive hardware. All the computing and storage will occur on the JioCloud, and an active internet connection will be required to access data.
Additionally, users are expected to pay a monthly subscription fee to access this service, which may be offered in multiple tiers based on performance and storage capacity. It is speculated that this service may be accessible on existing devices such as desktops and smart TVs without the need to purchase the laptop.
This upcoming ‘cloud’ laptop is a significant step towards making powerful computing devices more accessible and affordable for the Indian market.
