Denver-born Nurse Relocates to Ukraine to Help Soldiers
Rebekah Maciorowski, a 28-year-old combat nurse from Denver, Colorado, decided to leave her comfortable life and move to Ukraine to provide medical assistance to soldiers in the conflict against Russia.
In March 2022, Rebekah made the decision to volunteer as a combat nurse in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. She felt compelled to take action instead of just being a bystander. She reached out to the Ukrainian Minister of Health to offer her services, and upon receiving a positive response, she made the move to Ukraine.
She has been actively involved in providing medical assistance to soldiers in the Donetsk and Luhansk Oblast. Rebekah started providing first aid to soldiers and realized that they lacked proper medical training and supplies. This motivated her to expand her role to include tactical medical training.
Rebekah’s commitment to supporting the soldiers has been unwavering, despite the challenging conditions. She has faced numerous hurdles, including unreliable equipment and the lack of standardized testing for medical supplies. Despite these obstacles, Rebekah has managed to evacuate over 1,000 soldiers, demonstrating her dedication to the cause.
One of the most pressing issues Rebekah has encountered is the need for high-quality tourniquets. She firmly believes that reliable and durable medical supplies can make a life-or-death difference for injured soldiers.
Despite the hardships she has faced, Rebekah has remained resolute in her mission to help those in need. She has turned to crowdfunding to raise money for trauma gear, generators, and medical supplies for frontline medical stabilization points.
Rebekah’s journey has been transformative. She has adapted to the unique and challenging environment of wartime and has become more assertive. She acknowledges that re-adjusting to civilian life may be challenging given the changes she has undergone, but she remains committed to her cause.
As a combat nurse, Rebekah’s dedication to her work in Ukraine serves as an inspiration to others. Her selfless commitment to helping those in need has made a significant impact on the soldiers and communities she has supported.
