BobDeol on Abrar becoming an ‘Animal’ due to trauma in his negative role

‘BobDeol discloses he embraced the role of an antagonist at the essence of the character in the movie “Animal”. The crime drama delves into the turbulent relationship between Ranbir Kapoor’s Ranvijay Singh and his father Balbir Singh, portrayed Anil Kapoor. “Animal” raked in a whopping Rs 236 crore at the box office within two days of its release.

Deol, who garnered attention after the teaser release, portrays the character of Abrar Haque in the film. He described his approach as non-judgmental, surrendering to the thought process of his brutal antagonist. “There’s good and evil in every human being and what gets the evil out of you is some situation. As an actor, you think as a character. ‘I’m doing nothing wrong, I’m right in whatever I do’. You forget how to judge what is right and wrong,” shared Deol.

The film has received mixed reactions due to its portrayal of a violent and volatile lead character, highlighting toxic masculinity and unrealistic plot points. Despite this, Deol acknowledges that it is impossible to create a film that appeals universally, noting that filmmakers aim to entertain and represent real societal issues.

Despite his limited screen time, Deol emphasizes that the substance and depth of his character made the role meaningful for him, stating that the length of the role is not the focus, but rather the character itself. He further expressed his satisfaction in playing the role and revealed his desire for a spin-off dedicated to his “Animal” character.

Deol also shared the rigorous physical preparation he underwent alongside Ranbir Kapoor for their roles in the film. He recounted that maintaining his physique for the role of Abrar was challenging but served as the motivating force behind his dedication.

Elated at the success of “Animal” and his previous work in other projects, Deol reflected on the positive reception he has received for portraying negative characters. He finds immense satisfaction in tackling diverse roles and complexities and expressed his family’s pride in their collective success in 2023.’
