In a bid to get its EVs to sell better, Tesla decided to bring a price reduction to its Full-Self Driving (FSD) subscription to only $99 per month, half the original price of the service.

This centers on the supervised FSD version, which still requires the driver to pay attention on the road despite the technology engaged. It requires monitoring and possibly intervening from time to time.

Previously, users may purchase the FSD along with their Tesla EVs or opt for the monthly subscription that would have them paying it frequently and stopping whenever they want to opt out of the service.

Tesla shared a post on X that announced the latest price reduction of the Full-Self Driving (Supervised) subscription, and it is available for only $99 per month starting today. The price reduction is only available for the United States region, and other countries with the FSD would still have to pay the previous price to get the self-driving feature.

That being said, users may head to the Tesla app and go to Upgrades > Software Upgrades > and choose Subscribe to get this new pricing from the company.

Since then, Tesla has offered the FSD for sale, which costs around $12,000 for the FSD’s availability, but it is not a lifetime ownership of the tech. For its subscription, the FSD was previously at $199 a month, now seeing half of its previous value.

Why did Tesla reduce FSD subscription half?

There were no explanations from the company behind this price reduction, but it is known that Tesla’s previous quarter saw a slump in its numbers, with Q4 2023 considered a disappointing time for the company. This was a first for the company’s low EV sales and slump since it rose to fame in the late 2010s and early 2020s.

Tesla’s Full-Self Driving Tech Now

After years of testing under the beta for eligible drivers of Tesla EVs, the Full-Self Driving technology has not yet achieved its full autonomy license and wide availability among users. Initially, users who were eligible to get the FSD, particularly those who received a 100 Safety Score, were previously asked to return to dealerships and upgrade their cars with cameras to get the FSD.

Over the past year, Tesla was caught up in a massive controversy about the FSD and its Autopilot, with many crashes blaming the technology that resulted in the accidents.

Additionally, some whistleblowers claimed previous Tesla FSD demonstrations were fake, with the video said to be staged to look like the feature was working flawlessly.

Two years ago, Tesla effected a price hike for its FSD subscription, and this is back when the company’s tech rose in popularity and was one of the most coveted autonomous driving features available.

Now, Tesla is issuing a price decrease for the autonomous driving technology, with the FSD subscription for the supervised version only at $99 per month.
