Senior cabin crew members of Air India Express have raised concerns about the company’s code of conduct and have requested the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to intervene.
According to the employees, they have been facing mental harassment and abrupt contract reductions, and are questioning the management practices of the airline.
The issue, as stated the AIX employees union, revolves around a decision that prohibits cabin crew members from participating in any trade union activities. The letter sent to Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia claims that the decision aims to disrupt unity and halt union work.
The union further alleges that the HR team, led Anjali Chatterjee, has recommended not renewing contracts for four cabin crew members, without providing any reason or justification. It also claims that the assessment program conducted the airline did not have transparency in communication and led to unwarranted contract reductions.
Furthermore, the union has accused the company’s assessment team of harassment and discrimination, claiming that cabin crew members were targeted based on their complexion, language, accent, and performance abilities post-maternity leave.
The employees union also highlighted concerns about unethical practices within the organization, including manipulated height measurements affecting BMI calculations for contract renewal.
In another distressing incident, a cabin crew member who suffered a spinal injury on duty and now faces life in a wheelchair was terminated without consideration for ground work suitable for their abilities.
Moreover, the letter raised concerns about recruitment and promotions, alleging discrepancies in contract tenure for cabin crew members and favoritism within the organization, attributed to COO Pushpinder Singh.
Despite repeated attempts, the union has been unable to discuss these concerns with CEO Aloke Singh, who seems unwilling to address the issues. The union emphasized the need for intervention to rectify this unjust treatment towards cabin crew employees at Air India Express Ltd.
