Andhra Pradesh Braces for Cyclonic Storm ‘Michaung’ Landfall
Andhra Pradesh is on high alert as the state prepares for the landfall of the severe cyclonic storm ‘Michaung’. Heavy rains have already lashed parts of the state, prompting the government to issue an alert to eight districts in the southern coastal region.
Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy held a review meeting with senior officials to discuss the impending cyclone and set multiple relief efforts in motion. An alert has been issued to the districts of Tirupati, Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Krishna, West Godavari, Konaseema, and Kakinada.
The cyclone is expected to make landfall near Bapatla on Tuesday, bringing winds of up to 100 km per hour and gusts up to 110 kmph. The weather system is predicted to persist until December 7 before becoming a deep depression.
To support relief measures, the Chief Minister announced financial aid for districts in the storm’s path. Additionally, senior officers will be deployed to these districts to focus on preventing loss of life and safeguarding crops. Evacuation efforts are underway at 181 relief camps with the assistance of disaster response teams.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of addressing the medical, food, and water needs of evacuees. Financial aid and food rations will be distributed, and special attention will be given to pregnant women and the prevention of communicable diseases.
As the cyclonic storm approaches, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams has temporarily denied permission for devotees to take holy baths, and political activities have been postponed due to the inclement weather.
