Pakistan Suffers Fourth Consecutive Loss in Cricket World Cup 2023 Match Against South Africa

In a thrilling encounter on Friday, Pakistan faced a devastating defeat against South Africa just one wicket in the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023. This loss marks Pakistan’s fourth consecutive defeat in the tournament.

At the moment, Pakistan stands at the sixth position on the points table with only four points from six matches. Their chances of qualifying for the next stage of the tournament are extremely slim.

In their match against South Africa, Pakistan batted first and managed to post a competitive total of 270 runs in under 47 overs. Babar Azam, Saud Shakeel, and Shadab Khan played crucial innings for the Pakistani team. However, the South African bowlers, Marco Jansen and Tabraiz Shamsi, picked up seven wickets between them to limit Pakistan’s scoring.

In response, South Africa adopted an aggressive approach to chase down the target. Aiden Markram played a brilliant knock of 91 runs and led the Proteas to a nail-biting victory. Pakistan’s bowling attack struggled to contain the South African batsmen, with Shaheen Afridi taking three wickets. Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim, and Usama Mir also contributed with two wickets each.

Following the match, a heated incident occurred between Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Nawaz. With just five runs needed for South Africa to win, Babar Azam decided to bring Nawaz, a spinner, into the attack for the 48th over. Unfortunately, Nawaz conceded a boundary on his first ball, leading to South Africa’s victory. The captain was visibly furious with Nawaz’s performance.

Looking ahead, Pakistan still has a few matches remaining in the ICC World Cup 2023. Their upcoming fixtures include matches against Bangladesh on October 31 in Kolkata, New Zealand on November 4 in Bengaluru, and England on November 11 in Kolkata.

As the tournament progresses, India, Australia, and South Africa are considered the top favorites to win the 2023 World Cup. The current odds from Dafabet indicate India as the frontrunner with odds of 2.15, followed Australia at 5.00 and South Africa at 4.75. Pakistan’s odds are relatively low at 29.00.
