Chennai’s Heavy Rainfall Causes Traffic Jams and Flooding, Disrupting Daily Life

As Cyclone Michaung approaches the North Tamil Nadu coast, Chennai is experiencing heavy rainfall and severe waterlogging. Vehicles have been submerged, and traffic jams have ensued due to the heavy rainfall. Areas in north-Chennai have been flooded, causing disruption to normal life. NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed in the city in anticipation of the cyclone.

Power cuts and waterlogging have affected the low-lying areas of Chennai, leading to closed roads and damage to infrastructure. The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted continued heavy rainfall in Chennai and surrounding areas for the next 24 hours. According to the Met Department, “CS MICHAUNG lay centered over Westcentral & adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamilnadu coasts.”

As a result of the heavy downpours, 11 express trains from Chennai Central were cancelled due to the water level reaching the danger mark at Bridge No. 14 between Vyasarpadi and Basin Bridge. The Southern Railway has posted a notice expressing regret for any inconvenience caused the disruptions.
