Elon Musk’s X experiences cutbacks from Slack

Slack has retired its @SlackStatus account, indicating that customers were not using it frequently. The account, which had over 30,000 followers, was responsible for sharing updates about system issues on the Slack platform.

This move Slack follows a trend of companies reducing their presence on the platform since Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter and subsequent rebranding. However, Slack still maintains its main account, @SlackHQ, which has more than 458,000 followers.

According to Kevin Albers, Slack’s Customer Experience VP, the decision to retire the @SlackStatus account was made to consolidate communications around incidents and allocate resources to the channels most widely used customers.

The company announced the retirement of the account on X, stating that users can still check status.slack.com for incident updates, which will now be considered the official source of information. Any questions related to incidents will be addressed through Slack’s main account on X.

Slack is not the only company cutting back on its presence on X. Air France, KLM, and Balenciaga have all decreased their activity on the platform. Balenciaga, in fact, completely left Twitter after Elon Musk’s takeover, removing its account in November 2022.

Air France and its sister airline, KLM, also stopped handling customer service requests via Twitter in May due to X’s API being placed behind a paywall.

As Elon Musk’s influence continues to reshape the social media landscape, it seems that companies are reassessing their strategies and adjusting their presence on various platforms accordingly.
