Social media users may believe that Facebook has lost its cultural relevance, but a number of TikTokers have recently shed light on just how financially lucrative the platform can be.

In an exclusive interview with Insider, several content creators shared their secret: Facebook is an overlooked goldmine for cash. My Nguyen, the mastermind behind the viral food and recipe account MyHealthyDish, referred to Facebook as a “cash cow” due to the various ways to make money on the platform. While competitors focus on TikTok and YouTube, Facebook remains relatively untapped.

One prime example is Morgann Book, a lifestyle influencer with 2.8 million TikTok followers. Book earned over $93,000 from Facebook payments for posting reels between September 2022 and July this year. The authenticity of these earnings has been verified Insider through documentation. Book expressed her initial skepticism towards Facebook’s potential, stating that she thought no one uses the platform. However, her 214,000 followers on Facebook have proved otherwise as she reposts her TikTok videos.

Nuseir Yassin, known as Nas Daily with 7 million TikTok followers, shared his monthly earnings of up to $70,000 from several Facebook accounts. The influence of Facebook’s large and diverse audience cannot be underestimated.

Recognizing this, Facebook has invested heavily in expanding its creator monetization tools. In-stream ads, ads on reels, bonuses, user-pay tools, and subscriptions are among the features available to content creators seeking new revenue streams.

However, Facebook and Instagram recently paused their Reels Play bonus programs, leaving creators to explore other avenues. Facebook’s Head, Tom Alison, stated that the company is focusing on scaling other money-making tools, particularly those involving reels. As a result, creators are seizing the new opportunities to generate passive income while diversifying their content on platforms like TikTok.

So how are creators cracking the Facebook algorithm and earning thousands? Gen Z content creator Wasil Daoud emphasized Facebook’s diverse global audience as a key factor. With over 2 billion monthly active users, Facebook offers an enormous untapped audience for creators. Daoud himself earned $9,380 directly from Facebook since January 2023, compared to only $300 from TikTok during the same period.

Many creators consult third-party startups like Jellysmack and Decked to optimize their content and adapt it for Facebook. These companies offer support in repurposing TikTok content in exchange for a share of the earnings. Rob Clark, who manages the TikTok account That Tall Family, earns more than $2,000 per month from ads on Facebook. Similarly, Cassandra Bankson, a skincare-focused creator, has made $13,000 from in-stream ads played during her videos since April.

While third-party assistance is common, some creators choose to manage the platform independently. Queen Khamyra, with 764,000 TikTok followers, started posting content on Facebook after a Meta representative highlighted its potential. She has since earned $2,863 directly from posting.

Creators also acknowledge the benefit of Facebook’s audience demographic, which tends to be older. Logan Nathanson, who runs the tech product recommendation TikTok page, Our Favorite Finds, appreciates the higher spending power of the platform’s older users. This translates into increased revenue through affiliate commissions.

To illustrate the success achieved on Facebook, here are the earnings of select creators:

– Morgann Book: $93,743 (before Jellysmack cut) from September 2022 to July 2023
– That Tall Family: $10,418 (after Jellysmack cut) from February to July 2023
– Cassandra Bankson: $13,000 (after Decked cut) from April to October 2023
– Logan Nathanson: $9,912 (directly) from June to September 2023
– Wasil Daoud: $9,380 (after Jellysmack cut) from January to October 2023
– Queen Khamyra: $2,863 (directly) from April to October 2023

Facebook, often termed as “dead” some, holds immense potential for content creators looking to monetize their work. Its untapped audience and diverse features present opportunities for substantial earnings. With the right strategies and support, creators can unlock Facebook’s hidden goldmine and challenge the dominance of other social media platforms.
