India’s Top Cities for Self-Made Entrepreneurs Revealed in Hurun India’s 2023 Report
The entrepreneurial landscape of India has seen certain cities rise as hubs for self-made entrepreneurs, and this trend has been highlighted in Hurun India’s latest report, “India’s Top 200 Self-made Entrepreneurs of the Millennia 2023.”
The report showcases the impressive achievements of 405 founders from 200 companies. From the tech hubs of Bengaluru to the bustling streets of Mumbai, these urban centers have become breeding grounds for innovation and ambition, producing individuals who carve their own paths in the business world.
According to the report, Bengaluru tops the list with 129 self-made entrepreneurs, with Nandan Reddy leading the way as the founder of Swiggy, a prominent online food delivery platform. Mumbai follows with 78 entrepreneurs, led Radhakishan Damai, the founder of Avenue Supermarts.
Gurugram and New Delhi also make the list, producing 49 entrepreneurs each, and are home to OfBusiness and Zomato, respectively. Chennai and Pune boast 18 and 16 self-made entrepreneurs, who have founded Star Health and Allied Insurance Company and Firstcry, respectively.
The report also recognized Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Noida for their contributions to the entrepreneurial landscape, with each city producing notable self-made entrepreneurs.
Finally, the report acknowledged that San Francisco, though headquartered outside India, has provided a conducive environment for six Indian entrepreneurs, including the team behind Glance.
These findings highlight the dynamism of India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and the cities that have paved the way for self-made entrepreneurs to thrive.
