X, owned Elon Musk, has announced the rollout of audio and video calls for its users. The social media platform has introduced the highly anticipated feature in phases. Although an official announcement is yet to be made, users have reported receiving a notification stating “Audio and video calls are here!” The platform has also added a new setting that allows selected users to enable calls.
X is now the latest social media app to offer audio and video calls, joining the ranks of Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. However, X provides users with greater control over their call settings. Users can choose whether they want to enable audio and video calls for themselves. Additionally, they have the ability to select who can call them, including people in their address book, people they follow, and verified users.
It is worth noting that video calls are currently only available to users with a paid subscription. This development comes shortly after Musk revealed plans for two new subscription options on X. The first option will be a lower-cost plan that retains all features but includes ads, while the second plan will be more expensive and completely ad-free. It is possible that users may be required to pay an annual subscription fee to post content on the platform.
