Pakistani all-rounder Imad Wasim announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket on Friday. The decision comes after representing the national team on 121 occasions between 2015 and 2023, with 55 ODI appearances and 66 T20I caps. Imad, known for his prowess as a left-arm off-spinner and his batting abilities, was a valuable asset in limited-overs cricket.
His international career took off when he represented Pakistan in the U19 World Cup in 2006, a tournament that saw the emergence of future cricket greats. Notably, Imad captained the team in the 2008 edition of the tournament.
Despite batting primarily lower down the order, Imad had an impressive ODI batting average of 43, showcasing his importance to the team. While not the most dangerous bowler, he was known for keeping things tight when bowling. His notable achievement includes being part of the Pakistan squad that won the Champions Trophy in 2017.
In T20 cricket, Imad established himself as a specialist, often bowling within the Powerplay with fielding restrictions in play. He holds the unique distinction of having identical personal-best bowling figures in both ODIs and T20Is, with 5/14.
Aside from his international career, Imad has had a successful franchise career, representing teams such as Karachi Kings, Jamaica Tallawahs, Barbados Tridents, and Melbourne Renegades.
