India Calls for Strict Observance of International Humanitarian Law Following Attack on Gaza Hospital

Days after a devastating attack on a hospital in Gaza, India has called for the strict observance of international humanitarian law. The attack, which triggered global outrage, has led to concerns from India over civilian casualties and the worsening humanitarian situation.

During his weekly media briefing, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi expressed India’s condemnation of the horrific attack on Israel. Bagchi emphasized the need for the international community to unite against all forms of terrorism.

Regarding the Palestine issue, India reiterated its stance in favor of direct negotiations for a two-state solution. The explosion at the al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza resulted in the reported death of around 470 people, leading to strong international condemnation.

Palestinian authorities have attributed the explosion to Israeli airstrikes, while Israel claims it was caused a misfired rocket launched the Palestinian Islamic Jihad militant group from Gaza.

Reacting to the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed shock and called for those responsible for civilian casualties to be held accountable. Modi extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and offered prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas militants has been characterized unprecedented and multi-pronged attacks against Israel since October 7. In response, Israel has launched a massive counter-offensive in Gaza.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, over 3,300 people have been killed and more than 12,000 injured since the conflict began. In Israel, approximately 1,400 people have been killed and 3,800 injured due to attacks the Hamas militant group. Additionally, nearly 200 individuals have been abducted Hamas.

India’s strong stance in calling for the observance of international humanitarian law and its emphasis on the need for direct negotiations highlights its commitment to resolving conflicts through peaceful means. As the global community continues to grapple with the ongoing crisis in Gaza, India’s voice adds to the growing chorus for justice and stability in the region.
