Instagram is currently experimenting with a feed exclusively for verified users who have paid.

Meta-owned Instagram is following in the footsteps of Elon Musk’s platform X testing a new feature that allows only paid verified users to post on the feed. This move comes after reports earlier this year revealed Meta’s plans to introduce a subscription service for Facebook and Instagram users to pay for a verified account.

According to Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, the company sees this as a way to give people more control and help businesses and creators gain more visibility. The new feature, called Meta Verified, will be accessible under the “Following” and “Favorites” sections when users tap on the Instagram logo at the top of the app.

The Verge reports that the Meta Verified toggle will appear as an option in the app. When activated, it will give users the ability to curate their feed exclusively with posts from paid verified accounts. This move is aimed at offering users a way to enhance their Instagram experience and possibly increase their visibility on the platform.

The Meta Verified program comes at a cost of $11.99 on the web and $14.99 in the app. Users who join the program will have the opportunity to appear more prominently in their followers’ Instagram feeds. Mosseri encourages users to provide feedback and express interest in utilizing this new feature.

In related news, Meta is also considering implementing charges for an ad-free experience on Instagram and Facebook in Europe. Reports suggest that users in Europe will have the option to pay $14 per month for an ad-free experience or agree to view personalized ads. Additionally, those who wish to access both platforms can opt for a combination subscription priced at $17 per month.

It is important to note that Meta will continue to offer free versions of the apps with ads in the EU. The company aims to provide choices for users while exploring new avenues to generate revenue.

These developments demonstrate Meta’s ongoing efforts to innovate and find new revenue streams while catering to user preferences. Instagram users can look forward to enhanced controls and possibilities for gaining more visibility on the platform through the Meta Verified feature.
