President Joe Biden has joined Donald Trump’s social media platform Truth Social and posted his first message, saying “converts welcome!” The Biden campaign also followed Trump’s account, making it the only account the campaign is currently following. The move is seen as a way for Biden to mock his likely rival in the next presidential election.
Under the handle @bidenhq, the Biden campaign announced its presence on Truth Social with the post “let’s see how this goes. Converts welcome!” In a humorous statement, the campaign said, “We just joined Truth Social, mostly because we thought it would be very funny.”
The Biden campaign sees its presence on Truth Social as an opportunity to reach out to conservative voters and hold the “MAGA” (Make America Great Again) supporters accountable on their own platform. A senior campaign aide stated, “There’s very little ‘truth’ happening on TruthSocial, but at least now it’ll be a little fun.”
Former president Trump created Truth Social, which launched in February 2022. The platform positions itself as a free-speech alternative to Facebook and Twitter but has faced challenges since its inception. Trump’s controversial posts frequently attract attention and have even landed him in legal trouble.
Despite its claims to provide an alternative to mainstream social media, Truth Social has only around two million active users, a small number compared to platforms like Facebook and TikTok, which attract billions of users.
Donald Trump remains popular in polling for the Republican nominee for the next presidential election, despite various legal challenges and charges against him, all of which he denies.
Insider reached out to Truth Social for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
