Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan and filmmaker Karan Johar may have a deep friendship now, but it wasn’t always that way. In a recent episode of Koffee With Karan, Johar shed light on the period when the two were not on speaking terms.

Johar confessed that he and Kareena had a fallout back in 2003 which lasted over a year and a half. The conflict arose during the making of the film Kal Ho Na Ho. However, the two reconnected during a difficult time for Johar, when his father was diagnosed with cancer. Kareena reached out to him, leading to a rekindling of their friendship.

This revelation echoes Johar’s previous admissions in his autobiography, An Unsuitable Boy. According to the book, he had approached Kareena for the role of Naina Catherine Kapur in Kal Ho Naa Ho, but they fell out due to monetary negotiations. Johar mentioned that he offered Kareena the role later, but she requested the same amount as Shah Rukh Khan. Feeling hurt, Johar chose to cast Preity Zinta instead.

Despite the tumultuous period, Johar admitted that it was “idiotic” on his part, as Kareena was much younger than him. Nevertheless, the two have since reconciled and now share a very close bond. They have worked together in several movies, including Good Newwz, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, Bombay Talkies, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, We Are Family, and Kurbaan.

Given their reconciliation and thriving friendship, it’s clear that the bond between Kareena and Karan has stood the test of time.
