Elon Musk is heating up the AI race with the launch of Grok, a new chatbot that a former employee claims has other AI bots “scared.” Musk, the CEO of X, has unveiled Grok, which is currently in beta and only available to select users, but will eventually be open to premium users of X. According to Musk, Grok has a “massive advantage” over other models because of its access to X’s information.
Some X employees with access to the chatbot have taken to Twitter praising its humor and real-time information. One employee even claimed that other AI bots are afraid of Grok. Musk has also openly challenged other AI companies, stating that his AI startup, xAI, is “definitely in competition” with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT.
When questioned about their thoughts on Grok, other AI chatbots, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4, Google’s Bard, Anthropic’s Claude, and Microsoft’s Bing Chat, responded with a variety of sentiments. While some dismissed the concept of AI fear altogether, others expressed concerns about Grok’s use of real-time information from Twitter and its sarcastic and humorous nature.
According to xAI, Grok-1 has already surpassed GPT-3.5, but its competitors, such as ChatGPT-4, are still ahead in certain areas. The success of Grok will ultimately depend on consumers’ preferences and the trust they are willing to place in Musk’s real-time information and AI experiment. As the race heats up, all eyes will be on Elon Musk and the future of AI.
