Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently met during the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) in Dubai. Meloni shared a selfie of the two leaders on Instagram with the caption “Good friends at COP28. #Melodi”. In response, PM Modi shared the same picture on social media, saying “Meeting friends is always a delight.”
During their meeting at COP28, PM Modi also discussed the collaborative efforts between India and Italy for a sustainable and prosperous future. He also had several other important meetings with world leaders including the UAE President, Swedish PM, Turkish President, Barbados counterpart, French President, United Nations Secretary-General, and UK PM.
PM Modi highlighted the impact of climate change on countries in the Global South and emphasized the importance of climate finance and technology to fulfill their aspirations. This marked his third appearance at the World Climate Action Summit, following visits to Paris in 2015 and Glasgow in 2021.
This meeting is not the first between the two leaders, as they had previously met at the G20 Summit in New Delhi and during Meloni’s State visit to India in March 2023. During the visit, bilateral relations between the two countries were raised to the level of a Strategic Partnership, and they discussed cooperation in areas such as defense and new technologies.
