Prasidh Krishna replaces Hardik Pandya in World Cup

India’s Cricket World Cup campaign has suffered a setback as star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of further participation in the tournament. Pandya injured his left ankle while bowling in India’s match against Bangladesh. According to a press release from ICC, the 30-year-old was unable to recover in time and will miss the rest of India’s campaign.

Pandya’s absence has opened up an opportunity for fast bowler Prasidh Krishna, who has been added to India’s squad. Krishna has limited international experience with only 19 white-ball appearances for India. However, he made an impact in his last international outing, taking the prized wicket of David Warner against Australia just before the World Cup. The right-arm quick will be competing with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj for a place in India’s pace attack.

The Event Technical Committee has approved India’s replacement player, making Krishna available for selection in the crucial World Cup clash against South Africa on Sunday. Both India and South Africa are currently at the top of the World Cup standings, and the winner of the match will have a strong chance of finishing the group stage in first place.

Here is India’s updated squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Prasidh Krishna, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav.
