Priyanka Chopra recently spoke about the challenges of working in female-centric films and how she handles failure at the box office. The actress participated in a masterclass with Bhumi Pednekar as part of the Jio MAMI Film Festival in Mumbai.

During the session, Priyanka candidly shared her thoughts on starring in movies that focus on women and the impact it has on her. She admitted that she used to feel a tremendous amount of pressure when her female-led films didn’t perform well, as it felt like a collective failure for all women.

“There’s a lot of pressure when you have a female-led film because we have so few, so when they don’t do well, you feel the collective failure on behalf of all women,” Priyanka expressed, according to Deadline. She further added, “I used to feel like I’ve taken women a few steps back, I’ve let womankind down, because there are so few of us that get the opportunity to do this.” However, she has now adopted a different perspective to deal with such failures.

“But I’ve learned to pivot my mind around that – it’s not personal. When a movie works, it works because it has something to say. And if it doesn’t work, it didn’t say what it needed to say,” Priyanka explained.

The actress also opened up about the industry’s perception that actresses only take on female-oriented projects towards the end of their careers. She revealed that after the success of “Krrish,” she signed on for the film “Fashion” and was told that actresses usually opt for such roles for a chance to win a National Award.

Despite these initial challenges, Priyanka has gone on to headline several successful female-centric movies, including “Mary Kom,” “Saat Khoon Maaf,” and “Jai Gangaajal.”

During the masterclass, Priyanka looked stunning in a white printed saree. Aside from the session, she also graced the opening night ceremony of the Jio MAMI Film Festival.
