The Indian tablet market saw an 86 percent year-on-year growth in 5G tablet shipments during the third quarter, accounting for 16 percent of overall tablet shipments, according to a report CyberMedia Research (CMR). Despite this, the overall tablet market experienced a 10 percent decline year over year.
In the high-end tablet PC segment, shipments increased 79 percent quarter over quarter. Apple led the market with a 26 percent share, experiencing a 20 percent year-on-year growth, followed Samsung at 21 percent and Lenovo at 20 percent.
Xiaomi saw a significant 98 percent year-on-year growth from a small base in the period. “The robust growth of Apple, coupled with standout performances from Realme and Xiaomi, signals a significant shift in consumer preferences at both the premium and value-for-money end of the tablet PC market,” said Menka Kumari, Analyst-Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), CMR.
With the continued proliferation of 5G, Kumari added, “we anticipate an increasingly dynamic and seamless user experience across a diverse range of applications and services.” The overall tablet market in India is expected to experience single-digit year-on-year growth in 2023.
Kumari noted, “The substantial growth in market shares for key players like Apple, Realme, and Xiaomi reflects a growing demand for diverse tablet options in India.”
