India head coach Rahul Dravid praised the England batsmen for their approach in the first two Tests of the five-match Test series.

England won the series opener in Hyderabad 28 runs, with their batsmen, Ollie Pope in particular, putting on a spirited, counter-attacking batting display in the 2nd innings.

They tried to repeat much of the same in the second Test in Vizag, but to no avail, as Jasprit Bumrah led the bowling attack and helped India level the series 1-1 heading into the third Test in Rajkot.

Rahul Dravid heaps praise on England batsmen

Dravid reserved special praise for the execution of the English batsmen, claiming that there’s much more to their approach than just being aggressive and acknowledging that “they played really well.”

They (England) are playing very well. Whether you call it Bazball or whatever you call it. I’m not sure how happy they are about it, but they are playing really good cricket. Let’s be honest, they played well, they’ve shown good skills. it’s not like wild slogging.

They are actually showing some very good skills. Some of the shots they are playing require a lot of skill and ability. You can’t just come there and execute those things and just say, well, I want to play attackingly and not have the skills to execute it.

So, I think there’s more to it than just attacking cricket. I’ve seen at times they know when to pull back, when to attack. So they’re playing slightly differently, no doubt about it, but they’ve been very successful and they’re playing it well. We know we’re up against the challenge and we’re looking forward to it.

What next for India and England?

With the third Test set to be begin on February 15, both teams will be hoping to rejuvenate after participating in two intensely gripping Test matches.

England are set to travel to the UAE, where they held their practice camps ahead of the Test series.

The third Test will be played at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
