Report: Google delays the launch of next-gen AI model Gemini until next year without much fanfare

The much-anticipated launch of Google’s groundbreaking AI model, Gemini, has been delayed until early 2024, as reported The Information. The launch was pushed back due to difficulties in handling non-English prompts.

Described as the next generation of AI, Gemini is a multimodal model that can process multiple types of data, understand and generate text and images, and create other types of content based on sketches or written descriptions.

According to The Information, the previously unannounced launch events were quietly rescheduled for early 2024 due to concerns about the AI’s reliability in responding to non-English prompts and inquiries.

Representatives for Google have not responded to requests for comment from Business Insider.

While Gemini has not yet been released for public use, it has been reported to outperform OpenAI’s GPT-4 due to its significantly greater computing power.

Sissie Hsiao, Google’s VP and manager of Bard and Google Assistant, has spoken highly of Gemini, stating that it can create images based on human requests, such as drawing the steps to ice a three-layer cake.

Analysts believe that Gemini could shift consumer awareness in favor of Google’s generative AI model over ChatGPT once it is finally launched.
