Sam Altman and OpenAI receive nothing but praise from Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella

OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, and Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, recently discussed their partnership at OpenAI’s DevDay conference. Nadella expressed admiration for OpenAI, describing their work as “magical.” The event provided an opportunity for Altman and Nadella to address the ongoing collaboration between OpenAI and Microsoft.

Nadella praised Altman and his team, stating, “First, we love you guys. It’s been fantastic for us.” He specifically highlighted OpenAI’s large language models, emphasizing that they have created something truly extraordinary.

This praise from Nadella comes almost a year after Microsoft made an additional $10 billion investment in OpenAI, further solidifying their partnership. Through this collaboration, Microsoft has been able to leverage OpenAI’s language models to develop its own AI products. Earlier this year, Microsoft introduced Copilot, a suite of generative AI tools that can summarize meetings, create presentations, and generate initial drafts of writing. Additionally, they launched an AI-powered Bing browser in May. OpenAI also benefits from using Microsoft Azure cloud servers to run their AI.

Nadella emphasized the broader goal of disseminating the benefits of AI to a wide audience and building safe AI technologies. Altman echoed this sentiment, stating, “We have the best partnership in tech. I’m excited for us to build AGI together.”

It’s worth noting that prior to this conference, there were reports in September suggesting that Microsoft might be exploring the development of in-house AI models to reduce their reliance on OpenAI. However, neither Microsoft nor OpenAI have responded to Insider’s request for comment regarding these speculations.

The positive remarks from Nadella and Altman demonstrate the strong bond between OpenAI and Microsoft. Their partnership has enabled both companies to advance their AI capabilities and contribute to the broader adoption of AI technologies. As the collaboration continues, it remains to be seen what groundbreaking innovations will emerge from this dynamic duo.
