Tata Motors witnesses fierce competition in the SUV segment from various players.

Tata Motors, one of India’s leading automobile companies, announced its plans to continuously update its range of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) in order to stay competitive in the rapidly growing market. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), SUV sales account for 60% of the overall passenger vehicle sales in the country. In an interview with PTI, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, emphasized the importance of focusing on individual products in the SUV segment rather than aiming for a specific market share position. Chandra also highlighted the success of Tata Motors’ SUV sub-segments, with Punch and Nexon leading their respective categories, and the Harrier Safari combo securing the second spot in its vertical.

Tata Motors recently unveiled new versions of its popular SUV models, the Harrier and Safari, with prices starting at Rs 15.49 lakh and Rs 16.19 lakh, respectively. Chandra revealed that the company has plans to introduce two more models, the Curvv and Sierra, in 2024 and 2025, further strengthening their SUV portfolio. He expressed confidence in Tata Motors’ strength in the SUV segment and stated that the company’s focus is on maintaining excellence and adding to their product lineup.

In addition, both the updated Harrier and Safari have received top safety ratings from Global NCAP, a vehicle safety group. These ratings reflect the highest scores ever achieved any Indian vehicles in terms of adult and child occupant safety. Global NCAP Secretary General Alejandro Furas commended Tata Motors’ commitment to developing safer vehicles and praised the company’s achievement in the crash tests.

Overall, Tata Motors aims to maintain its position as a key player in the highly competitive SUV segment through continuous updates, strong product offerings, and a focus on safety. The company’s plans for future models and its commitment to excellence indicate a promising future in the Indian automobile market.
