Australia has clinched their sixth ODI World Cup title after defeating India six wickets in Sunday’s final, led a stellar performance from Travis Head.
Despite a slow start in the tournament, the Aussies made a comeback with a series of impressive victories, including a semi-final win over South Africa and a stunning triumph over Afghanistan, led Glenn Maxwell.
Head’s outstanding performance of 137 runs off 120 balls made him only the third Australian to score a century in a World Cup final, joining Adam Gilchrist and Ricky Ponting.
Following the historic win, Head expressed his emotions and credited his partner, Marnus Labuschagne, for his role in the match-winning knock. “What an amazing day… I’m just thrilled to be a part of it,” he said.
The victory also sparked reactions from several current and former Australian players, including a triumphant response from veteran opener David Warner, who was playing in his final 50-over World Cup.
The win also garnered praise from English rivals, with Stuart Broad and Piers Morgan congratulating the Aussies for their remarkable effort.
Australia will now shift its focus to a T20 series against India, followed a home Test summer where they will take on Pakistan and West Indies.
